Background
Since the emergence of COVID-19 and its rapid global spread, various epidemic simulation prediction models have sprung up.
“Resources for COVID-19 Study” is a series of webinars sponsored by the China Data Lab project with these objectives: (1) to provide data support for the spatial study of COVID-19 at local, regional and global levels with information collected and integrated from different sources; (2) to facilitate quantitative research on spatial spreading and impacts of COVID-19 with advanced methodology and technology; (3) to promote collaborative research on the spatial study of COVID-19 via the China Data Lab, Dataverse and WorldMap platforms; and (4) to build research capacity for future collaborative projects. This forum will discusses data resources, methodology, technology, and applications for COVID-19 models across countries and regions.
This series of lectures has invited relevant guest speakers to analyze in detail from the perspectives of model review, model data, model methods, and model applications, bringing in-depth understanding of the art and limitations of various epidemic models. The initiative is a joint effort by scholars and professionals from the Center for Geographical Analysis at Harvard University, the Geo-Computation Center for Social Sciences at Wuhan University, the China Data Institute, the Spatiotemporal Innovation Center at George Mason University, RMDS Lab, and other institutions.

About speakers:
- Dr. Xi Chen is an associate professor of Health Policy and Economics at Yale University. He is a PEPPER Scholar at the Claude D. Pepper Older Americans Independence Center. He consults for the United Nations, serves as research fellow at the IZA Institute of Labor Economics, leads Global Labor Organization research cluster on Environment and Human Capital, and was the president of the China Health Policy and management Society (CHPAMS). His research focuses on public policies related to health over the life cycle, population aging, climate change and health, and quality of life.
- Dr. Winnie Chi-Man Yip is Professor of the Practice of Global Health Policy and Economics at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, the Director of the Harvard China Health Partnership, and will be the Interim Faculty Director at the Harvard Fairbank Center for Chinese Studies for 2020-2021. She also serves as the President of the International Health Economics Association (iHEA) and senior editor of Social Science and Medicine. Dr. Yip was previously a Professor of Health Policy and Economics at the University of Oxford. Her research focuses on the design, implementation and evaluation of systemic health care interventions, and modeling and evaluating the effects of incentives on the behavior of providers and patients.
