Applications Open: 2021-22 An Wang Postdoctoral Fellowship

Professors Winnie Yip and Arthur Kleinman will lead an interdisciplinary research collaboration Meaningful Ageing and End of Life in China: A Multidisciplinary US-China Collaboration. The research group for this collaboration will conduct in-depth study and analyses to understand what constitutes a meaningful life for older people in China and what policies and actions can be designed to advance this objective.

The annual An Wang Postdoctoral Fellowship offered through Harvard University’s Fairbank Center for Chinese Studies is now accepting applications, and the fellowship for 2021-22 will provide support to two postdoctoral fellows to conduct research under the mentorship of Professors Yip and Kleinman.

Fellowships will run from August 1, 2021 to July 31, 2022, during which time fellows will conduct their proposed research project to further understanding of ageing and end of life in China. Research projects might address the meaning of purpose-driven ageing and how it is manifested in a Chinese context, the kind of care system policymakers should be considering to integrate medical care with socially and culturally meaningful support, the role of social technology, the role of the government versus the market in financing a system for elderly support, and other pressing issues related to ageing.

Applications are due by February 15, 2021. A full description of the fellowship, including required qualifications and instructions on how to submit an application, can be found on the Fairbank Center’s website.
