The generous bequest of Ms. Marilyn B. Hoffman has supported research with the aim of advancing the understanding of the health consequences of chemicals and other toxins in the environment and promoting actions that protect vulnerable populations, with an emphasis on adaptation following sensitization.
The research program may has included the following approaches: exposure assessments; clinical evaluations after controlled exposures; epigenetic investigations of gene expression and alteration; epidemiological studies of selected subjects; animal models of MCS; and other toxicological, neurological, or cardiovascular studies. The Hoffman Program has encouraged new investigators and interdisciplinary collaborations to undertake research on chemical intolerance.
