Jan has studied social protection and cash transfer programs in India and in Tanzania. She focuses in particular on demand- and supply-side incentives for health promotion and women’s access to health care. With the India Health Systems Initiative, she studies the determinants and outcomes of access to effective care. Most recently, as a Postdoctoral Fellow with the Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL), Jan was based in New Delhi where she investigated cash transfer interventions to improve maternal and child health in India. She received a PhD in Health Policy from the University of California, Berkeley, where she examined the role of women’s agency in conditional cash transfer interventions to reduce HIV and sexually transmitted infections in Tanzania.
