New England Science Symposium 2018

Our Harvard MIRT Fellows presented their summer research at the New England Science Symposium (NESS) on April 8th, 2018. The annual symposium is held at at Harvard Medical School in Boston, MA. It is an opportunity for college students, graduate students, and postdoctoral fellows to share their biomedical and health-related research activities.

At the symposium, Ana Andrade (MIRT 2015 Peru Fellow) received the first place Ruth and William A. Silen, M.D. Award for her oral presentation titled “Association of antepartum depression and generalized anxiety disorder with infant birth weight and gestational age at delivery.” Congratulations Ana!

We are very excited to report that our own Dr. Michelle Williams and Dr. Cheryl Anderson (MIRT 1994 alumna) have been elected to the National Academy of Medicine (NAM). Election to the NAM is considered one of the highest honors in the fields of health and medicine and recognizes individuals who have demonstrated outstanding professional achievement and commitment to service. Congratulations to Dr. Williams and Dr. Anderson!

Our MIRT 2016 Winter Newsletter is here!

Inside this issue, we profile three alumni who have received support from the Double Eagle Scholarship to  participate in the MIRT Program. We also highlight MIRT alumni Isabel Morgan. Since her 2014 MIRT Fellowship, Isabel co-founded Crafting Change Agents, a program that aims to promote cultural understanding between black Americans and South Africans, encourage civic engagement, and empower scholars to pursue leadership positions in their respective communities. Our newsletter highlights two new research studies from our MIRT Fellows and spotlights alumni Dr. Roberto Orellana, who participated in a MIRT Fellowship in Peru in 2003.
